The Braintree branch of the RMV is just off Washington Street in an office park on Plain Street. Its website features a clock that tells customers current wait times for registration and licensing, allowing them to time their trips to an office infamous for long lines. There is ample parking right next to the office and in a larger lot as well. Suspension hearings are not held at this branch, though most other services are available, including title transactions, road tests and license plate returns. See the RMV website for a complete list.
The Braintree town clerk's office is located on the main level of Town Hall on JFK Memorial Drive. It contains the Town Clerk, as well as the assistant and principal clerks. The office is responsible for recording vital town events such as births, deaths and marriages. Copies of various documents can be found at the office during business hours. Dog licenses, business certificates, raffle permits and passports are all also found here.
The police headquarters, built in 1976, is situated just over Route 93 on the other side of the rotary that also leads to the MBTA station. There is also a substation at the South Shore Plaza that is not always manned, but is used by patrol officers when the need arises. About 72 police officers make up the department, and they go out one per cruiser on patrol. The department encourages residents of Braintree to provide crime tips and download necessary forms on its website, where there is also a slideshow history of the force. Special units of the Braintree PD include motorcycle, canine, juvenille and domestic violence.
The Braintree Council On Aging is part of the Town of Braintree Department of Elder Affairs. The council influences public policy regarding elder care and promotes community activities and recreation for senior citizens. Resources are also provided to older community members such as transportation services and companion programs.
Public Works Department contains several subdivision including the engineering division, highway and grounds, recreation and community events, golf, recycling, and sewer and water. Director Thomas Whalen heads the DPW and oversees the employees of the various other departments within his larger department. Services within the DPW include planning and designing road, sewer and water projects, as well as coordinating organized recreational activities.
