Company C.E. Clarke & Son, Inc. is a distributor of materials handling and storage equipment. Originally setup as a woodworking mill, C.E. Clarke & Son, Inc. began to repair and rebuild wooden cylinders of commercial laundry machines. In the process of doing most of the woodwork for the commercial laundries, it was often necessary to furnish casters for much of the rolling equipment in the laundries. In 1939, the Darnell Caster Line was taken on as a source of supply for this need. During World War II, C.E. Clarke & Son, Inc. furnished Darnell casters for the wooden bomb and torpedo cradles that they built for the Yorktown Naval Mine Depot. After the war, wooden laundry cylinders were being replaced with those of stainless steel. C.E. Clarke & Son was not setup for metal fabrication, so focus shifted from woodworking to the distribution of casters and wheels. Now in business for over 80 years, C.E. Clarke & Son, Inc. has developed lasting relationships with many major suppliers of casters, caster wheels, hand trucks, dock equipment, shelving, and other materials handling equipment.
