The Edna Louise Spear School is the only elementary school in the Port Jefferson School District. Principal Ted Mockrish oversees a faculty for grades k - 5. The school even has a half-day pre-kindergarten program. The emphasis of this school is on developing students who take resposibility for their education and become life-long learners. It has plenty of programs and acitivites to keep students busy, a special education program and it's the only elementary school on Long Island with its own swimming pool.
At Port Jefferson's Earl L. Vandermeulen High School, the faculty and staff led by Principal Roseann Cirnigliaro offer a safe environment and small school setting to prepare students for a lifetime of learning.
The school is home of the Royals, with athletic teams for both girls and boys from field hockey and gymnastics to soccer and football.
There is also an extensive music and fine arts department run by director Michael Caravello. The Port Jefferson School District music program has been voted one of Top 100 Best Communities for Music Education by the American Music Conference in its nationwide survey of school districts committed to music education.
Smarty Pantz Preschool is a New York state licensed pre-school located in Port Jefferson. The school focuses on hands-on, interactive learning as well as individual nurturance. Activities include reading, storytime and musical play. All Smarty Pantz teachers are first-aid and CPR certified. The pre-school also runs a series of summer camps for children ages 18 months - 12 years old.
