American Legion Post 257 is a non-profit organization that hosts special events to raise money for veterans and other charitable organizations. It also sponsors monthly meetings, which are held at the clubhouse dining room; attendance is offered at a fee of $10 per person.
The American Legion is a private organization that supports veterans. It is located at the intersection of Waverly Oaks Road and Beaver Street. The building has social, meeting and event facilities. A lounge is also available for members to dine and converse. In addition to the American legion, two other organizations also share this building. They are the American legion Auxilliary and the Sons of the American Legion.
The American Legion is originally based out of Indianapolis and was founded in 1919. Since then, it's grown to over 3 million members in approximately 14,000 posts throughout the world. The organization is chartered by Congress and handles all lobbying relating to veteran-related issues including benefits, pensions and the VA Hospital system. Presidents Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Ford, Carter and Bush (both) have all been Legion members. This location doubles as the home of VFW Post 6800, which meets every second Saturday at 10 am. The VFW has a separate website: www.vfw6800.org and officially became chartered on April 8, 1946. There is a function room on the premises.
The George A. Campbell American Legion Post 101 is a meeting place for veterans. It hosts a meeting on the first Monday of every month and many other special events, including holiday celebrations and other fund-raising parties. The hall is available for rent.
Millican-Mackenzie Post 273 offers support services to veterans and the surrounding community. The post hosts numerous events and community services including golf tournaments, charitable events and more. The hall also is available to rent for special occasions, parties, anniversaries and more. Call to schedule an event or check the main site for a schedule.
The Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital is a medical center run by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. Dedicated to providing exceptional health care that improves the health and well-being of veterans, The Veterans Hospital is located on Springs Road.
The American Legion is a nationwide organization dedicated to supporting veterans and local community programs throughout the country. The Dover Legion Post 209 was chartered in 1919. It hosts special events throughout the year, provides scholarships and participates in numerous charitable programs such as Toys for Tots. The hall is available for rent for private functions and features a bar, kitchen and space to accommodate up to 200 people.
The American Legion is an organization that offers assistance and support to American veterans who have served in the armed forces. It holds events and sponsors activities to help raise funds on behalf of veterans and their families. Post 440 of the Legion meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm. Membership to the American Legion is exclusive and limited to veterans of WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, Lebanon/Granada and Operation Desert Storm/Shield.
The American Legion was chartered by Congress and is the largest veterans service organization in the country. Post 40 is located in Plymouth and is temporarily closed for the winter as its members complete work on the flood-damaged building. It is projected to re-open in the spring of 2011.
