The local VFW is part of a national organization that has been instrumental in advocating for the rights of as well as services and benefits for U.S. foreign war veterans. Members are active in community volunteerism and college scholarship provision. VFW halls are available for private event rental.
The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is a fraternal order and social club with more than a million members nationwide. While it has its roots in New York, the BPOE is now in all fifty states. The Hamden Elks are active in raising money for a variety of causes, most notably those benefiting children and veterans.
The lodge is located next to The Hamden Centre Apartments.
