Hope's Treasures, a thrift store operated by the Good Shepherd Alliance. Whether it's clothing, shoes, CDs, furniture, electronics, jewelry, purses, toys, books or a myriad of other needs you're after, it might not hurt to try this store first. A nearly new Greg Norman golf shirt, an untouched Jimi Hendrix t-shirt, brand new athletic shirts with the tags still on them, barely used dress shoes, nice sport jackets are all here on the racks. Proceeds from the store, along with other donations help support the GSA's mission. The GSA is a nonprofit Christian organization with stated goal of assisting women, children and families in crisis. The primary assistance provided includes emergency shelter, food, clothing, children's programs, counseling and transitional housing for pregnant women. Headquartered at the Ashburn Road location, the alliance also has a thrift store in Sterling.
Falls Church Homeless Shelter is a community resource providing nightly respite from harsh weather to individuals without a place to stay; the shelter is operational from December 1 through March 31. The shelter can house 12 individuals at any one given time, with separate sleeping and showering facilities for women; each resident has access to a storage locker in addition to their bed, and can also reserve the bed for the following night. Residents who do not show up at the shelter on time forfeit their place to another homeless individual in need.
